Connaught Academy named top achiever in Wales
The Connaught Academy in Caerphilly has won the Constructing Excellence Wales Achievers’ Award for its innovative work in meeting the training needs of the growing construction industry.
Huw Evans of the Connaught Academy said: “It’s great that the Academy has been recognised by an organisation like Constructing Excellence, which exists to provide improved industry performance resulting in a demonstrably better built environment.
Green plumbers of Wales Launched
Connaught academy has launched jointly with Welsh Water the Green plumbers of Wales scheme. The scheme was announced at the TAI 2008 housing event held in Cardiff this month. This scheme will see Connaught Academy students being the first in the UK to be part of this exciting scheme. The scheme will see training for water efficency and product specific skills forming an integral part of the programme. This wil allow the right skill set to be available for the right product in this ever more important area.
CORGI Award for Supporter of Women in Plumbing 2006

Connaught Academy collected the prestigious CORGI Award for Supporters of Women in Plumbing. The award is in recognition of the 36 women who undertook the plumbing programmes and overcame various barriers to achieve employment at the end of the course.
Church Village's Kirsty is one of UK's top learners
Gas engineer Kirsty Hollinshead of Church Village has reached the UK final of an awards scheme aimed at promoting practical learning.
She was named Wales' Practical Learner in the Edge Awards earlier this year and joined the UK finalists in London.
Connaught Community Award 2006
Connaught Academy received this award through its contribution to developing the potential of local communities. As part of the Connaught Community Initiative, it was able to recognise and understand the complex issues of diversity within the local area. This has enabled the Academy to employ and train local people and activiely support related community initiatives, such as the Gurnos workshops in Merthyr Tydfil and securing employment for women plumbers.
Finalist for the Best Overall Film for “The Way to Work for Lone Parents”
media4communities awards 2006 held at the BBC Cymru Wales Studios
Connaught Academy was credited for their contribution to the media4communities film about women plumbers striving to succeed against the odds. It worked alongside local community organisations, such as Working Links, to help women plumbers achieve their plumbing qualifications and secure suitable employment afterwards.
'A' Grade Status
Connaught Academy has been awarded a presitigious acccolade following a recent visit from City & Guilds. It was awarded an 'A' Grade in all aspects of qualification delivery by the Lead External Verifier in the UK, making it the first centre in Wales to achieve top status.
Recognising excellence in Welsh Sector Prisons
Rowley Lawrence, Curriculum Leader at Swansea Prison, was recently nominated for his work in the category of Reducing Re-offending by HM Prison Service. The award is in recognition of the work and effort put in by outstanding individuals working within the HM Prison Service.
Connnaught Academy RISEs to the challenge
RISE is a new learning network made up of a partnership of all those involved in Lifelong Learning. It aims to improve the opportunities in learning for adults in the counties of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.

Trowbridge-based Daniel gould decided to swap a pick and shovel for learning a trade - and now he's been named Student of the Year by Connaught Academy.
Grant reaches pinnacle of his career
Grant Dodd has been awarded the highest accolade in his plumbing career after 20 years of hard work. He is one of only 125 people to be awarded the Master Plumber Certificate since its introduction in 2001.
