CORGI Award for Supporters of Women in Plumbing 2006

Connaught Academy Training Centre celebrated this week as it collected the prestigious CORGI Award for Supporters of Women in Plumbing.

The CORGI Awards is an annual event held by the Safety Watchdog at Coventry’s RICOH Arena to recognise the achievements of CORGI Registered Installers of Gas, Heating and Plumbing.

Connaught Academy collected the prestigious CORGI Award for Supporters of Women in Plumbing, given in recognition of the 36 women who undertook the plumbing programmes and overcame various barriers to achieve employment at the end of the course.

Over the last year, Connaught Academy has been working with the European Social Fund to assist ‘Women into Plumbing’. The Technical Certificate in Plumbing Studies has proved very successful, with the majority of women now in work placements or in paid employment and working towards their NVQ Level 2.

Connaught Academy was developed by social housing provider, Connaught Plc, to ensure that staff are appropriately trained and suitable to work accurately and efficiently in these occupational areas.  Its main focus is on meeting the needs of customers while maintaining a consistent high quality service.

Huw Evans, Regional Training Manager, said: “To win this award is a fantastic achievement for us, as we were in a field of over thirty nominations, including major companies and training providers such as British Gas. This is just one of a clutch of accolades we have won that highlight the quality of training that we deliver.”
