SMSTS- Site Management Safety Training Scheme
The CITB Construction Skills Site Safety Plus scheme is a health and site safety training programme with courses addressing the needs of site managers, site supervisors, the site work force and subcontractors. Site management training and safe site supervision is critical to site safety and equally important is the level of safety awareness of the entire workforce on a construction site. Although this group of courses is often referred to generically simply as SMSTS Training, there are a number of Site Safety Plus training courses designed to provide the building, civil engineering and allied industries with a range of courses for individuals seeking to develop their skill sets. These safety training courses are run through a network of CITB accredited Training Providers
One of the key areas of the programme centres around the Construction Design Management regulations
The CDM 2007 Regulations came into force on the 6th April 2007. Their key aims are to:
- Encourage everyone to work together to make health and safety an integral part of the design, construction and management of projects
- Improve planning and management from day one to identify hazards so that they can be eliminated or properly managed
- Target effort where it can be most effective in terms of health and safety.
- Encourage co-operation and co-ordination of the project
Course options
5 DAY site management - This course is intended for project managers, site managers and supervisors as well as proprietors of small to medium sized companies. Client-based personnel would also benefit from attending the course. Possession of this qualification is listed in the Approved Code of Practice for the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations as a demonstration of competence in the role of site manager.
2 Day refresher - This course is intended for those who currently hold a valid Site Management Safety Training Scheme Certificate. The certificate has to be renewed every 5 years by attending the SMSTS refresher course.
Attendance on both these courses can either be day or block release, however these courses run on a minimum class size and therefore are subject to change dependant on group size and confirmation.
