Grant reaches pinnacle of his career
Grant Dodd has been awarded the highest accolade in his plumbing career after 20 years of hard work.
Grant, 36, from Church Village near Pontypridd, is one of only 125 people awarded the Master Plumber Certificate since its introduction in 2001. Receiving the award will enable Grant, a lecturer at Connaught Academy in Caerphilly, to pass on his knowledge and experience to future plumbing technicians.
Grant has been working at the Connaught Academy for over two years and has been studying for the industry recognised standard for five years. During that time, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to upholding standards in plumbing through his teaching of apprentices. He said, ”Having worked within the plumbing industry for all of my working life, I simply wanted to show my dedication to the profession. After making the move from a practicing plumbing engineer to that of a lecturer in the profession, I believe there is no better way than passing on experience and encouraging a sense of ambition within the next generation of plumbers.”
Huw Evans, Regional Training Manager, said: “Grant should feel particularly proud of himself. He has worked incredibly hard to achieve the certificate and, being one of few people nationwide to attain it, we feel honoured to have him as part of the team."
“We have a large number of trainees through the Academy each year and receiving the certificate will help Grant to pass on his knowledge to hundreds of other aspiring engineers. He is an asset to Connaught.”
Connaught Academy is part of Asset Management specialist Connaught Plc. It trains more than 2000 people a year, supplying them with the vocational skills to practice engineering roles both within the Connaught business and externally within UK industry.
The certificate was awarded jointly by the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, the City & Guilds of London Institute and the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering.
