Disinfection of Water Systems (Legionella)
The Disinfection of Water Systems course is designed to meet the requirements of the revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and Guidance, Legionnaire’s Disease: The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems. It focuses in particular on the disinfection of cold water supply systems. The aim of this course is to ensure operatives have the knowledge and skills to undertake the disinfection process.
This course is aimed primarily at practising plumbing operatives who already have knowledge of hot and cold water systems. It will also be appropriate for water inspectors and others who are involved with the maintenance and management of a water system.

- Legislative and guidance documents relative to the control and disinfection of Legionnaire’s Disease
- Description of the basic properties of water
- Background to the disease
- Characteristics of the bacterium and how it is transmitted
- Sources of the bacteria
- How to control the risk of Legionella
- Practical assessment of existing installations for potential basic design risks and recommendations to rectify the problems
- The cleaning and disinfection of a cold water system

BPEC Certificate valid for 5 years
